Ease of use
Simple dial operation. The pumps on the Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress are as easy to use as turning a dial. Just plug it in, turn the knob to “inflate,” and it’s ready to use in four minutes or less. That same dial is used to select one of three firmness levels, plush, medium or firm. A secondary pump then takes over, monitoring the firmness level and adding air as needed. The twin-sized Insta-Bed also deflates quickly and folds for storage in the included bag. The only real quibble we saw with this 18-inch thick air mattress is that regular sheet sets don’t fit properly, you have to buy deep-pocket twin bed sheets, which tend to be pricier. However, the plush top keeps them in place well, users say. If you need something larger than a twin sized air mattress, the Insta-Bed is also available in queen.
Comfort
Provides good support. The twin-sized Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress features 21 circular air coils (35 on the queen size), and many back pain sufferers say they prefer this air bed to their “real” beds, saying it provides better and more adaptable support. Owners also appreciate the “never go flat” technology since one of the big drawbacks of air beds is the occasional tendency to wake you from a sound sleep by gently lowering you to the hard floor. Reviewers say that luxury touches like the plush top make this Insta-Bed air mattress feel more like a “real” mattress and helps to cut down on the coldness that most air beds engender. Many users also appreciate the raised profile — in spite of the issue of finding sheets to fit — because they say it makes this air mattress easier to climb in and out of.
Durability
Very solid; built to last. With its dual pump technology, the Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress gets many fewer complaints than other air mattresses of leaking — which many consider a durability issue even though it’s quite common with all air mattresses. Having said that, the Insta-Bed Raised Air series of mattresses are said to be very well made with a thick construction that resists punctures. We read quite a few reviews from people who used this for weeks or months at a time with no loss of performance, although there are a few scattered complaints of splitting at the seams or where the pump attaches to the air bed. Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattresses come with a one-year warranty.
